Having
established Khublai Khans in Edinburgh in 1995, and
determined to uphold Mongolian Tradition, the owners,
brothers Alasdair and Andrew McRobbie decided in 1998
that Glasgow was ripe for a "Storm from the East".
The result was a second Khublai Khan in the Merchant
City's trendy Candleriggs.
The Glasgow restaurant was designed and built to the
brother's specifications. Eating at Khublai Khans is
an "experience" which is reflected in the
décor. A specially commissioned mural of Mogul
warriors at the charge covers one whole wall. The Great
Wall of China has been recreated (on a slightly smaller
scale) and the walls are adorned with Mongolian fabrics
and artifacts.
The Glaswegians appear to have taken to the concept
as readily as their cousins from the East Coast and
although the restaurant seats up to 125, bookings are
strongly recommended at the weekends.
